This rare Dumonthier gun cane is sophisticated and deceptively lethal. The ingenious design has a concealed trigger in its handle, while a chamber is hidden in the shaft for loading. Finished with a handsome horn handle.
Considered to be the most complex of the weapon canes, gun canes began to appear as early as the 16th century. The earliest were wheel-lock pistols installed in ducal sword canes. Flintlock and wheel-lock pistols had to be removed from the shaft of the cane before being fired. Soon, gun canes such as this that used the entire length of the shaft as a barrel began to appear in the early 19th century.
